De Britse krant The Guardian meldt dat de 82-jarige acteur Michael Byrne op maandag 20 juni is overleden. De doodsoorzaak is op dit moment nog onbekend.

Carrière
Byrne heeft heel wat grote titels op zijn naam staan. Zo speelde hij de rol van Colonel Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) en was hij te zien als Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010). Daarnaast had hij ook rollen in televisieserie Coronation Street (1960– ) en de iconische films Braveheart (1995) en Gangs of New York (2002).
